Kids African Drumming and Dance Summer Workshops

(Ages 5-9)



In these workshops we will explore the basics of African rhythms, through drumming, singing and dancing. Kids will learn hand drumming techniques and a traditional rhythm of the West African djembe and djun djun drums, as well as some of the cultural background of the drums. We will play with call and response rhythm games, rhythm dialogues, drum imagination games, individual playing, as well as group drum jams. Kids will also learn to move to the rhythms and practice some basic African dance steps. Throughout the workshop we will sing, let our voices and our energy out, and have a lot of fun! The emphasis will be on feeling the rhythm and the joy of music and movement.

Cost: $20 first child and $15 each additional sibling between 5 and 9 years old
